Sunderland have re-opened talks with Tottenham over the return of DeAndre Yedlin.

Manager Sam Allardyce wanted to sign the USA international on a permanent deal but was struggling to afford it within a limited budget. He is open to securing another loan.

Tottenham are also expecting an offer from Hull City this week for midfielder Ryan Mason.

Tottenham Hotspur are also expecting a bid from Hull City for central midfielder Ryan Mason this week

Mason broke through to the Spurs first team during Mauricio Pochettino's first season in charge at White Hart Lane, making 31 appearances in the Premier League.

However, the emergence of Eric Dier in midfield and the return to form of Mousa Dembele limited his opportunities for Spurs and he played only 22 times in the league.

Pochettino has already added his former Southampton charge Victor Wanyama, who will increase competition in the middle of the park.

Yedlin has struggled for appearances at Spurs but impressed in his 23 top flight games for Sunderland

Yedlin joined Spurs in the summer of 2014 after an impressive World Cup campaign for the USA under Jurgen Klinsmann.

He remained with then-club Seattle Sounders on loan until January 2015, but then struggled for opportunities at Spurs, playing just once in the Premier League.

Yedlin moved to Sunderland on loan last season and impressed in his 23 top flight games

The 22-year-old was part of the United States' squad for the Copa America Centenario earlier this summer
