Speaking to the club's website the 27-year-old said: 'I am very proud to join Manchester United, this move is a dream come true for me.
'I am excited to play for a club with such an illustrious history and hope to be part of it for a long time. I thank the trust the club and Jose Mourinho have put in me.
'Everyone was waiting for this transfer deal and I’m very happy that everyone can be proud of me because it’s an honour for me to be the first Armenian in the Premier League, and I will try to keep their expectation. I think it’s one of the biggest [clubs in Armenia].
'Finally, I believe playing for such a great club honours my father's memory, and the inspiration and drive he gave to me when I was young.
'When he was playing, I was too young to fully understand football but, after he passed away, my dream was to become a football player. I was thinking to continue the job he did and hopefully I am on my way.
'I'm very excited, it's a big opportunity for me and a new challenge for me and I will do my best. I couldn't reject this offer and I'm joining one of the biggest clubs in the world.
'Everyone knows it’s (the Premier League) one of the biggest championships in the world and I’m very happy to be part of it,' he added.
Mkhitaryan insists he made the right decision to leave Borussia Dortmund, especially after speaking to former United playmaker Shinji Kagawa and Adnan Januzaj who was on loan at the Bundesliga club last year.
'I think to look back, maybe I went a very long way to come here but, for me, this is not the highest point I can reach. I can go further and I am very happy for that because I think I did everything right in my life and I’m going step by step forward.
'I was very close with Adnan (Januzaj). He’s one of my friends and even before I came here I was always in touch with him and he was asking if I was going to join. I said 'I don’t know' but now I’m here and I will have him as a friend and helper.

FIVE THINGS ABOUT MAN UTD'S NEW £26M SIGNING HENRIKH MKHITARYAN

Mkhitaryan was born in the Armenian capital of Yerevan but grew up in France. Other celebrities of Armenian family origin include Cher, Kim Kardashian and Andre Agassi.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers tried to sign him in 2013 but he ended up joining Borussia Dortmund from Shakhtar Donetsk. Their manager Jurgen Klopp said after the £23million deal: 'He fits us like an arse in a bucket.'
A freescoring midfielder, Mkhitaryan hit 25 goals in 28 games in his final year with Shakhtar. He scored 18 last season and has 19 goals in 59 internationals for Armenia, who have never qualified for a major tournament.
His sister Monika works for UEFA as a media intelligence officer. She previously worked for the same organisation in the President's office under Michel Platini
He was nicknamed “Micki” by Dortmund fans who found his surname too complicated to pronounce. Others in Germany referred to him as the Armenian Zidane
New manager Mourinho added: 'Henrikh is a very talented footballer who has been in such prolific form for both his club and his country.
'He is a real team player with great skill, vision and also has a good eye for goal. I am delighted he has chosen to sign for United.
'I believe he will make an impact on the team very quickly as his style of play is suited to the Premier League. We are all looking forward to working with him.'
Mkhitaryan added that the Portuguese was a defining factor in his decision to join Manchester United. 'He was one of reasons why I chose Manchester, but also the team because it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. I couldn’t reject this offer and I’m very happy to be here,' he said.

The Armenia captain has followed Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly through the Old Trafford door to become Jose Mourinho's third summer signing.
'I think this year the team is going to be amazing and it will be a pleasure for me to play with these guys,' said Mkhitaryan.
The talented forward is likely to meet up with his team-mates for the first time during the club's pre-season tour of China - where his first game could be against former club Dortmund before playing local rivals Manchester City in the International Champions Cup.
'It will be a little bit strange to meet my ex-team-mates and in the first game, maybe I will have some emotions. It will be a little bit weird but whatever – Manchester is my new team,' he said.

MKHITARYAN OPEN LETTER TO BORUSSIA DORTMUND FANS

    Dear friends,
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Borussia Dortmund- from the administration, to the coaching staff and of course all the amazing fans - for the love and support you have given me in the past seasons. I will never forget the moments we shared together on and off the pitch over the last three years and I feel truly privileged to have represented such a great club and a great city.
When I think back to my roots and my father's football career, I was taught to embrace new challenges and I felt that in order to honour my family's legacy, I had to take this step in my career and join Manchester United.
Thank you you once more for all the memories. You will always have a special place in my heart.
    With Love, Micki
Speaking of what Manchester United fans can expect from him this season, Mkhitaryan said he would continue to do his best to achieve the goals he has set and cannot wait to play at Old Trafford.
'I will try to do my best – I will try to keep working hard. The goals I achieved last year, I will try to do this year too,' he said.
'I’ve never played at Old Trafford but I think it’s one of the most amazing stadiums in the world and for me it’s going to be very interesting to play in the stadium, and also for the supporters.'
Asked if he had a message for United fans ahead of the upcoming season, he said: 'Dear fans, I will be very glad to see you in the stadium for every game and I will try to do my best to help Manchester win.'
