Juventus eye up Thiago Silva on a free transfer as they look to make PSG defender another Andrea Pirlo

  • Juventus have used the Bosman system well in recent seasons
  • Thiago Silva's contract with Paris Saint-Germain runs out in the summer
  • Andrea Pirlo was brilliant during his time with Juventus despite his age
  • CEO Guiseppe Marotta is open about his club's interest in the defender

Juventus have hinted that they might look to secure another Andrea Pirlo-esque bargain by snapping up Thiago Silva.
The 32-year-old Paris Saint-Germain defender's contract expires at the end of the season and Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta has been openly discussing a potential move.
Juventus have made good use of the Bosman system in the past. They brought Pirlo into the club on a free transfer after most had considered him too old to play at the top level. Marotta believes Silva fit into the same category.

'Thiago Silva is an exceptional player and I don't know what PSG's intentions are for the future,' Marotta told Rai.
'It could be an opportunity like we had in the past to go for Pirlo.
'A player considered by many to be 'finished', but proved to be a great deal on a free transfer for us.'
Silva's agent has suggested that the defender will be looking to move elsewhere unless he agrees a new contract before December.

Juventus have been in sublime form since the start of the new season, losing just once in Serie A - against rivals Inter Milan.
They currently top the Italian top-flight as they aim for an unprecedented sixth consecutive Scudetto.
Despite losing star player Paul Pogba in the summer they have recruited well, adding Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli, and are already making an impression in Europe. They have won two and drawn one of their Champions League group stage games.
