Everton have gone cool on the idea of taking Wilfried Bony from Manchester City as part of negotiations over John Stones but are exploring various options. Utrecht's Sebastien Haller remains on their list.
With Stones leaving, Everton want two centre-backs hence their continued interest in Swansea captain Ashley Williams and Lamine Kone at Sunderland.
Jose Fonte has been discussed but Southampton don't want to sell the 32-year-old and have offered him a new contract while Everton would be reluctant to sign too many players over 30.
Idrissa Gana Gueye is keen to join Everton from Aston Villa though the Championship side are trying to get the price above his £7.1m clause after West Ham expressed interest.
Everton are unlikely to pursue interest in Portugal international William Carvalho though.

Sunderland are keen on Burnley striker Andre Gray but the Turf Moor club are reluctant to sell.
The 25-year-old has been prolific in pre-season following on from his impressive 23-goal haul last term.
Burnley bought him for £6m from Brentford with add-ons taking the deal to £8m while the Bees have a 20 per cent sell-on.
The powerful striker has been followed by Tottenham and Everton in recent months but Sean Dyche does not want to lose such a key player prior to the season starting.

Burnley would need close to £30m to consider any such move for a player who was earning around £500 per week while at Luton Town just two years ago.
Gray was recommended by former director of football Frank McParland who pushed to have him signed at Brentford and subsequently Burnley when he too moved to Turf Moor.
David Moyes is a confirmed fan but Sunderland may struggle to strike a deal.
Burnley are maintaining a similar stance over Michael Keane with Leicester needing to bid around £20m should they wish to sign the former Manchester United defender.
Burnley, meanwhile, have had a bid rejected for Norwich City's Robbie Brady following on from similar rebuttals for Jeff Hendricks at Derby and Dale Stephens at Brighton.

West Ham have had a £3m bid turned down for Norwich City left-back Martin Olsson but are poised to return with a £4m offer.
The 28-year-old Sweden international is one of several options being pursued by the Premier League side as they seek cover for the injured Aaron Cresswell.
Andrew Robertson of Hull, Manchester United's Cameron-Borthwick Jackson and Kieran Gibbs of Arsenal have also come under discussion.
However, a deal for Olsson could yet be reached this week, Norwich though want £5m for Olsson.
They have rejected £12m from Leicester for Robbie Brady and an offer from Burnley for the Republic of Ireland international.

Hull City midfielder Mohamed Diame is in talks with Newcastle United after they met his £4.5m release clause.
The 29-year-old joined Hull from West Ham in 2014 when they paid his then £3.5m clause. Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez still wants to add four more players to his squad this week.
He has identified a winger, though had a £6m bid for Brighton's Anthony Knockaert rejected, and wants a striker, a full back and possibly another centre back too.
Brighton's Lewis Dunk and Manchester United's Paddy McNair and Borthwick Jackson have been discussed.

Talks are continuing with targets as they look to have their squad in place for the weekend when they play Fulham in their Championship opener.
Hull have offered Diame a new contract but he has turned that down.
Hull rejected bids for Abel Hernandez, Robertson and Harry Maguire as they try to keep a squad intact that will be inherited by a new manager this week. Chris Coleman had been considered favourite but former West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola has been approached and held talks with the owners.

Former Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle striker Leon Best is training with West Bromwich Albion.
However, the 29-year-old is unlikely to get a deal under Tony Pulis. The Albion manager is happy to let Best train with his squad as he looks to find a new club.
Pulis maintains hope that he can persuade Diafra Sakho to join from West Ham after the clubs agreed a £10m fee with £6m in add-ons.
That could then allow Saido Berhaino to move to Stoke or Crystal Palace with both willing to offer around £22m for the 22-year-old who has one year left on contract.

Albion have had enquiries from Arsenal for Jonny Evans and from Derby and several other clubs for James Chester but have so far refused to sell.
Talks are ongoing with a Chinese consortium over the sale of the club.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have also asked about Federico Fernandez at Swansea and Shkodran Mustafa at Valencia. Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann has also been discussed by Arsenal and Everton.

Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater remains likely to sign a new contract at the King Power Stadium despite interest from other clubs.
Liverpool have weighed up a move for the former Manchester United midfielder though Tottenham had reservations because of his age, 26.
Drinkwater is one of the club's key figures on and off the pitch and Leicester hope to strike an agreement soon.
Riyad Mahrez may yet need more convincing with Arsenal monitoring developments.
Leicester hope to complete the signing of Cracovia's Poland winger Bartosz Kapustka after his medical.

Manchester United defender McNair has interest from Burnley, Middlesbrough, Celtic, Newcastle and Fulham as he ponders a loan move away from Old Trafford.
The 21-year-old Northern Ireland international was among those told by Jose Mourinho last week that United would like him to go and gain more match experience by having a season away.
United, meanwhile, have interest from Napoli and Roma in Matteo Darmian but have, so far, told the clubs he is not for sale.

The Italy international was expected to be one of the casualties of Mourinho's reign but United would only be tempted by a large fee for a player they bought for £12.7m.
United though do have interest in Monaco's Fabinho and want an experienced central defender to add to their squad before the season starts.
Meanwhile United have given a trial to Liandro Martis. The 20-year-old former Feyenoord winger has an offer from Oldham after playing for them in pre-season but has also trained with Leicester City who are willing to offer him a contract.
Martis, a Curacao international, has trained alongside the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger with the U21s and United are keen to give him an extended trial.

Marseille are in talks with Swansea over signing Franck Tabanou. The 27-year-old left-back had been talking to Malaga.
Watford winger Steven Berghuis has joined Feyenoord on loan.
